                       Sporter Rifle League 2019 - 2020

The Outdoor Sportsman’s Club is once again sponsoring a Sporter Rifle Team.

Matches will be held at the Outdoor Sportsmans Club on Monday evenings starting

Monday, September 9, 2019.  First relay starts at 6:30 p.m.  Second relay starts at

approximately 7:15.

What is Sporter Rifle?

A light rifle, off-hand competition using .22 cal. rimfire rifles.  The shooting position

is off-hand standing with the target at 50 feet.  Team scores are e-mailed to the N.Y.S. Sporter Rifle League and are used to see which teams win each week’s meet.

The sport is designed so that expensive special equipment is not required.  You can be competitive with the rifle you probably already own.  There is a maximum weight limit of 7.5 pounds on rifle and sight.  Slings or other devices that provide artificial support are not allowed.

Matches are held weekly throughout the season.  A match consists of 3 completed targets with 10 shots per target.  Shooters are given 10 minutes to complete each target.  The target used is the N.R.A. Official 50 ft. Light Rifle Target A-32.  The maximum score per target is 100.

The top 5 individual scores for each match constitute the team score for that match. Therefore, members of lower abilities can participate and not be concerned that their scores will hurt the team’s score.

Each week the league sends match results (team and individual) and your progress through the different skill levels (marksman, sharpshooter, expert, etc.)  The more matches you participate in – the more your skill will improve!

Cost for each half season:  Adults: $30.00  Juniors: Free! (ages 12 to 18).  Cost includes New York State Sporter Rifle fees.  The Sporter Rifle Bulletin (which includes team and individual scores as well as each participant’s skill level is available online for free.  It is no longer mailed to participants.  If you don’t want to sign up for the entire half-season, you can pay $5.00 for each meet.  Shooters who do not want to join the league can shoot each half of the season for $25.00 or $3.00 a meet.

First half season: September 9, 2019 through November 18, 2019

Second half season: December 9, 2019 through February 10, 2020

Participants must supply their own rifle and ammunition.
