Sporter Rifle League
What is Sporter Rifle?
A light rifle, off-hand competition using .22 cal. rimfire rifles. The shooting position is off-hand standing with the target at 50 feet. Team scores are e-mailed to the New York State (NYS) Sporter Rifle League and are used to see which teams win each week’s meet.
The sport is designed so that expensive special equipment is not required; you can be competitive with the rifle you probably already own. There is a maximum weight limit of 7.5 pounds on rifle and sight. Slings or other devices that provide artificial support may not be used; elbows are held away from the body.
Matches
Matches are held weekly throughout the season. A match consists of 3 completed targets with 10 shots per target. Shooters are given 10 minutes to complete each target. The target used is the N.R.A. Official 50 ft. Light Rifle Target A-32. The maximum score per target is 100.
The top 5 individual scores for each match constitute the team score for that match. Therefore, members of lower abilities can participate and not be concerned that their scores will hurt the team’s score.
Each week the league posts match results (team and individual) and your progress through the different skill levels (marksman, sharpshooter, expert, etc.)
